Ways to avoid irritating skin
1. Streamline your skin care regimen- using as few products as necessary, choose those that contains as few ingredients as possible. - The simpler the better!
2. Opt for hypoallergenic and /or fragrance-free products or those formulated for sensitive skin.
3. Do a patch test. Start by applying a quarter-size amount of product on your inner arms and covering it with adhesive bandage for 48 hours. If you get a reaction then you are sensitive for something in the product.
4.Minimize harshness. After cleansing, skin should feel soft and dewy not tight and taut.
5. Moisturize- " Hydration is very important for maintaining the skin's natural barrier against irritation. It is recommended to apply lotion within 3 minutes after shower to seal in the water the skin has absorbed.
6. Choose blocking sunscreens - Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, which works on surface of the skin to block ultraviolet, are less likely to cause reactions.
7. Exfoliate with caution. - use AHA(like glycolic acid) or retinoids (like retinol) on an every-other-day basis to start. If any resulting irritation doesn't resolve within a couple of weeks, discontinue use and consult your dermatologist.
